Susan Mango

Susan Mango studied at Harvard and Princeton universities. She began working on C. elegans embryogenesis as a postdoctoral fellow with Judith Kimble at UW-Madison/HHMI. Dr. Mango has held faculty positions at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, UT and Harvard University, MA; she is currently Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology at the Biozentrum in Basel, Switzerland. Dr. Mango has received multiple awards, including a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur fellowship, an NIH MERIT award and she was recently elected to EMBO.
Dr. Mango and her lab investigate the molecular underpinnings of embryogenesis, with an emphasis on four areas: i) foregut specification and morphogenesis by the pioneer transcription factor PHA-4/FoxA; ii) organization of chromosomes within embryonic nuclei and the onset of heterochromatin formation; iii) mechanical forces during epithelial morphogenesis and iv) communication between generations, mother to offspring.
