Alisdair Fernie

Alisdair (Ally) Fernie, studied biochemistry at the University of Sheffield before obtaining a D.Phil in Plant Metabolic Regulation from the University of Oxford in 1998. Following this he moved to the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology first as a post-doc, then in 2001 as co-group leader and since 2003 as a group leader. His research focus remains metabolic regulation however his research horizons have expanded to include plant molecular biology and genetics. He currently explores spatial arrangement of metabolism as well as the genetics underpinning metabolite accumulation. In recent years his research focuses on nutritional and medicinal aspects of plant science and in elucidating biosynthetic pathways underlying the production of these compounds as well as championing functional analysis of the role of metabolites both within plants themselves and within our diet. Fernie has published well over  1000 peer-reviewed publications that have, according to google scholar been cited in excess of 125 000 times.
