Young Seok Ju, M.D., Ph.D. is Assistant Professor at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea. He graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine (Seoul, Korea) and conducted post-doctoral research at Wellcome Sanger Institute (Cambridge, UK). As a cancer genome scientist, his academic interest is to understand the process of somatic mutations in human, both in cancer and in non-neoplastic cells. Using whole-genome sequencing technologies, he has made many contributions in basic and clinical settings, such as the detection of KIF5B-RET fusion oncogene in lung cancer (Genome Res 2012), the molecular understanding the evolution of lung adenocarcinoma into small cell carcinoma (J Clin Oncol 2017) and the identification of somatic mutations in the earliest stage of human life (Nature 2017).
