Omar Abdel-Wahab

Omar Abdel-Wahab is an oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) where he also serves as Chair of the Molecular Pharmacology Program and the Edward P. Evans Chair in MDS. Dr. Abdel-Wahab completed undergraduate and M.D. at Duke University followed by Internal Medicine residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He joined MSK in 2007 as a Fellow and then faculty in 2012. His lab has been focused on understanding alterations in the process of RNA splicing in cancer motivated by the discovery of high frequency mutations in the splicing machinery in leuke mias. His lab’s work has led to the development of several therapeutic approaches for these forms of cancer which are currently in phase 1/2 clinical trials. In addition, he has been a leader in the molecular genetics of blood cancers more broadly.
