Jernej Ule is a Professor of Molecular Neuroscience at University College London and a research group leader at The Francis Crick Institute. His group developed iCLIP and hybrid iCLIP (hiCLIP), along with computational tools, for transcriptomic, high-resolution studies of protein-RNA and RNA-RNA interactions. These methods are used to understand the assembly and dynamics of protein-RNA complexes, and their roles in regulatory mechanisms. Multivalent RNA motifs, positional principles (RNA maps), transposable elements and secondary RNA structures have been the focus of most past work. Moreover, the defective protein-RNA complexes in diseases such as ALS are studied to identify potential therapeutic strategies.
