I am Päivi Pajukanta, MD, PhD, Professor of Human Genetics, in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. My research group is using integrative single cell omics and genomics approaches to identify cell-type-specific mechanisms underlying obesity-related cardiometabolic disorders (CMDs), including type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemias, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. I am especially interested in genomic studies of the admixed Mexican population that has been underrepresented in biomedical studies despite their high predisposition to CMDs; development of computational approaches for complex traits; and utilizing single cell and bulk RNA- and ATAC-sequencing approaches to identify gene-environment interactions contributing to CMDs.
