David Enard is an assistant professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at The University of Arizona. The Enard lab studies ancient viral epidemics through the lens of adaptation in host genomes and develops new methods to better quantify genomic adaptation. We examine the intersection of evolutionary and ecological genomics to get a broader understanding of the interplay between current diseases and past adaptation to pathogens. We do this by leveraging the power of genome-wide approaches to study the role of natural selection in the evolution of infectious diseases in humans, bats and other mammals.
