Ulrich received his PhD from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2005 on a thesis titled ‘Absence epilepsy in rats: How nurture shapes nature. Genotypic and environmental influences on spike-wave discharges across the lifespan’.  From 2004-2007 he did a Postdoc in the lab of Dr. Hal Blumenfeld at the Dept. of Neurology at the Yale University School of Medicine, USA. He did a 2nd postdoc from 2007 - 2012 with Dr. Nikos Logothetis at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tuebingen, Germany, before joining Neuron as a Scientific Editor in September 2012.
