I lead the Rico lab, where we investigate connectivity between neurons in the mammalian cerebral cortex. Through our research, we aim to develop a better understanding of how these cortical circuitries are built, how they respond to activity and what happens when these circuits fail during developmental periods. Understanding this process is also an imperative need in biomedicine, because abnormal wiring is thought to cause severe neuropsychiatric disorders, such as Autism and Schizophrenia.
