- Cristina García Cáceres, Helmholtz Zentrum München, Germany
Prof. Dr. Cristina Garcia Caceres is currently a W2 Professor at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and serves as the Head of Research and Deputy Director at the Institute for Diabetes and Obesity at Helmholtz Munich. Cristina earned her Ph.D. in neuroscience in Madrid, Spain, and gained international experience through academic internships at Yale University and Göteborg University. Following this, she completed postdoctoral research at Helmholtz Munich, which laid the groundwork for her current research. Since 2015, Cristina has led a research group dedicated to unraveling the molecular underpinnings of physiological and pathological aspects of astrocyte-neuron signaling in the control of metabolism, with the goal of pursuing breakthrough discoveries that have translational potential in this relatively unexplored field. Her work also challenges traditional neuroendocrine models of obesity treatment, highlighting the relevance of targeting non-neuronal cells, and emphasizing the importance of sex as a biological variable in addressing these health issues.
