David Artis, Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell University, New York, USA
Dr. Artis is the Michael Kors Professor of Immunology, Director of the Jill Roberts Institute for IBD Research and Director of the Friedman Center for Nutrition and Inflammation at Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell University in New York. He is also Co-Director of the Allen Discovery Center for Neuroimmune Interactions. Artis has developed a research program focused on regulation of barrier immunity and host-microbiota interactions in the context of health and disease. His research has included defining the central role of the epithelium as an early immune sensor at barrier tissues and dissecting the molecular and cellular pathways that control the gut-brain axis and neuro-immune interactions in peripheral tissues. His research program also encompasses a significant effort to translate research findings in pre-clinical models into patient-based studies of immune-mediated diseases. Artis has published more than 180 peer-reviewed papers that have been cited more than 44,000 times and has an H factor of 94. He has been the recipient of Young Investigator Awards from the American Association of Immunologists, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and the international Cytokine Society. He is a grateful recipient of other awards including the Colyton Prize, the Stanley Cohen Prize, the Jeanne and Herbert Siegel Award for Outstanding Medical Research, the William E Paul Award of the International Cytokine Society for Outstanding Achievement in Cytokine Research and the AAI-BD Biosciences Investigator Award. Research in the Artis laboratory continues to be supported by the NIH, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Kenneth Rainin Foundation and Frontiers Group of the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.
