Luca Scorrano

Luca Scorrano (MD 1996, PhD 2000, University of Padua) trained as an HFSP postdoctoral fellow in Stan Korsmeyer’s lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School (2000–2003). Recruited by the Dulbecco-Telethon Institute in 2003, he became Full Professor at the University of Geneva in 2006 and, in 2013, “Chiara fama” Professor of Biochemistry at Padua University. He served as Scientific Director of the Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine (2014–2020). His lab discovered the cristae remodeling pathway and clarified mechanisms of mitochondrial architecture and dynamics, linking mitochondrial shape to physiology and disease. His lab identified alternative spliced variants of Mitofusin-2 as an ER–mitochondria tether, propelling the field of membrane contact sites. He is an EMBO and Academia Europaea member.
