Michal Minczuk is a Professor of Mitochondrial Genetics in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and a Programme Leader at the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit at the University of Cambridge. He obtained his Master’s degree in Biotechnology (1999) and PhD in Biological Sciences (2003) from the University of Warsaw, Poland, where he conducted research at the Institute of Genetics and Biotechnology. He was an FEBS Postdoctoral Fellow from 2004 to 2007 in the group of Aaron Klug at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge. Michal joined the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit as an Investigator Scientist in 2007, became a tenure-track MRC Investigator in 2009 and a tenured Programme Leader in 2015. His research focuses on mitochondrial genetics and the development of therapies for diseases driven by mitochondrial dysfunction. In 2020, Michal co-founded Pretzel Therapeutics, a biotechnology start-up aimed at addressing unmet medical needs in mitochondrial diseases.
