Roberto is a Professor of Molecular Therapeutics at UC Berkeley and Co-director of the Molecular Therapeutics Initiative. His lab studies metabolic signaling in cellular growth, focusing on mTORC1, lysosomal biology, and autophagy in neurodegenerative disease and cancer. He earned his PhD at Yale, conducted postdoctoral research at the Whitehead Institute/MIT, and established his lab at Berkeley in 2014. Roberto co-founded Frontier Medicines and advises Nine Square Therapeutics. He is a member of NIH’s CSRS study section and several scientific committees. His work has earned awards from the NIH, Pew-Stewart, Damon Runyon-Rachleff, Pew Innovation, and the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative..
