Randy Levinson, as an undergraduate student at Caltech, studied Alphavirus evolution and the regulation of their replication in the lab of Dr. James Strauss. He earned his Ph.D from the University of California, San Francisco, where he studied nuclear hormone receptor signaling with Dr. Keith Yamamoto. He carried on postdoctoral work with Dr. Eseng Lai at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center investigating the role of renal stroma in embryonic kidney development. He continued these studies during a second postdoc at Columbia University with Dr. Cathy Mendelsohn before starting at Nature Medicine in 2005 as a manuscript editor. In 2018 he joined the team at Cell Metabolism as a Senior Scientific Editor and in late 2019 was promoted to Deputy Editor.
