Dr. Yasmine Belkaid

Dr. Yasmine Belkaid obtained her Ph.D. in 1996 from the Pasteur Institute in France exploring innate immune responses to parasitic infections. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in the US, she joined the Children’s Hospital Research Foundation in Cincinnati as an assistant professor. In 2005, she joined NIAID and was appointed Senior Scientist in 2008. Dr Belkaid is also an Adjunct professor in the department of Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently the chief of the Mucosal Immunology section and Director of the NIAID Microbiome program. Dr Belkaid is a member of the Board of Reviewing Editors for Science and member of the editorial boards of Cell and the Journal of Experimental Medicine. She published over 150 peer review manuscripts and received several awards including the AAI-Thermo Fisher Meritorious Career and the Pasteur-Sanofi award. Dr Belkaid is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Her work explores mechanisms that regulate host immune responses to microbes at barrier sites such as the gut and the skin and revealed key roles for the microbiota and dietary factors in the control of immunity and inflammation.
