Keynote Speaker
Ayelet Erez was born in Israel, and studied medicine at the Technion Institute in Haifa. Following her Paediatric Residency, she completed a PhD in Cancer Genetics at Tel Aviv University. Ayelet then left Israel to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas, where she combined training in Clinical Genetics together with a postdoctoral fellowship focusing on metabolism of human diseases.
Ayelet returned to Israel on 2012 as a Senior Scientist at the Weizmann Institute of Science. In parallel, Ayelet works at the Genetic Institute in Tel Aviv Medical Center as a paediatric cancer geneticist. Ayelet’s research focuses on cancer metabolism through the prism of changes in amino acid homeostasis. She has found that in cancer, there are variations in amino acid catabolism, which support cancer evolution and can be identified at the genomic and biochemical levels. These findings have translational relevance as they may potentially enable early cancer detection and optimisation of the response to cancer immunotherapy.
