Michael T McManus, Ph.D., is the Vincent and Stella Coates Endowed Chair at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and a tenured Full Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. He has appointments or is a member of the Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Diabetes Center, the Eli Edythe Broad Center for Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research, and the Innovative Genomics Institute. Michael's work spans several fields and he is widely recognized for his innovative work in noncoding RNA, functional genomics, and cancer biology.

Since 2004 Dr. McManus has been a principal investigator at UCSF, overseeing a very productive and interactive lab studying the basic biological processes relating to gene regulation and cell biology, using cultured cells and the mouse as a model.  His lab has pioneered a number of technologies that surround high-throughput screening and in vivo genetic perturbation using mouse models. A developing theme in his lab is to combine synthetic and systems biology to study cancer biology using quantitative approaches.  Dr. McManus has been granted a number of noteworthy research awards for excellence in technologies and collaboration: the Sandler Integrative Science Award, the New Technologies Award, the PBBR Science Award, Breakthrough Technologies Award, the WM Keck Award, and the Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Award.
