Francisco J. M. Mojica (5 October 1963, Spain), is Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Department of Physiology, Genetics and Microbiology, University of Alicante (Spain). It is worth highlighting his discovery of the CRISPR-based acquired immunity system in prokaryotes, which is one of the greatest recent advances in Biology. His fundamental work on CRISPR for more than two decades has received prestigious awards, including the Rey Jaime I Prize for Basic Research, the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Biomedicine, the PLuS Alliance Prize for Global Innovation, and the Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research.
